Wilderness camps let campers really rough it

If your idea of a great vacation is being pampered, wilderness camping is not for you. Since these camps generally offer a variety of high excitement activities with not much in the way of modern conveniences pampering is not an option. However, during a week or two at a wilderness camp, children can learn important lessons such as survival skills, first aid and wilderness safety. As a plus, kids will also be forced away from the television and video games for a spell so they can connect with nature. One of the first and most obvious aspects of wilderness camping is, of course, the wilderness. These campers do not visit already set up camps with cabins, kitchens and bathroom facilities. Along with leaders experienced in wilderness survival, they set out to make their own adventure and their own camps. Wilderness campers generally carry all of the things they need to live during their camping trip in a backpack on their backs. Their packs will hold their clothing, food and eating utensils as well as tents and bedding. Depending on their activity, they may make and break camp each day, or they may set up one camp site and stay there during their entire camping trip. These campers generally travel to remote places where there is no electricity or plumbing. They must learn to cook all of their food over a fire and also set up a tent and campsite that will be protected from the elements. Campers will be taught how to pick a good campsite and how to pitch a tent properly. They will also be taught fire and cooking safety. During their camping experience campers will also learn the basics of wilderness safety. This will include training in which plants, animals and insects are poisonous and what should be done if someone should become poisoned by a plant or insect. Campers will bring the lessons they learn while wilderness camping back to their everyday lives where they will know how to properly handle emergency situations. In addition to the skills they will learn, most campers will tell you the exciting activities they can participate in during the trip is the focal point of wilderness camping. Wilderness camping will generally focus on an activity that can no be experienced in any other type of camp. These activities can include mountain climbing, white water rafting, glacier hiking or backpacking in the forest or jungle. Wilderness camps are available in locations in both the United States as well as foreign locations, so your child can choose the adventure that is right for them. Participating in a wilderness camp can help children learn the skills they need to survive and help others survive in the case of an emergency. They will also learn the extent of their own inner and physical strength as they participate in the adventure of their lives. Additionally, wilderness camps will also force kids away from video games and television for awhile and help them focus on nature and the world around them.

Camping essentials 101

If you’re planning to head out camping in the great outdoors – but you’re not exactly a seasoned camper – you may want to take a few moments and think about the kinds of things you’ll need while spending time outside. If possible, grab a seasoned camper and take him or her along with you – they’ll be able to tell you what to do in just about any situation – but if that isn’t an option, think about what you’ll need to start with: shelter, warmth, and food. Most beginning campers start out as tent campers, simply because it’s the easier thing to learn and the best way to ease oneself into the thrill of camping without too many variables. Also, this is a good way to see the “great outdoors” without giving in to your desire for the comforts of home – stay away from that RV and pack up the car instead! When you’re purchasing a tent, make sure it has adequate weather protection and durable mosquito netting – and do the same with sleeping bags, ensuring that they’re well insulated for ultimate warmth. Of course, the problem for many beginning campers is that there are simply too many styles and types of tents to choose from – so how do you know which one is the best for you? First, consider how many people are going to be sleeping in your tent, and whether you plan on storing your bags in the tent or keeping them in the car. Do you want to reserve the tent for sleeping-only, or will it also serve as a change room and relaxation area? In terms of space, it’s always best to choose a tent that is two people larger than the amount you plan to fit inside – for example, purchase a four-person tent if two people are going to using it. Before you think about setting up the tent and throwing the sleeping bags inside however, remember that the bags will be lying right on the hard ground – and unless your spine is incredibly durable, your body won’t be too happy with you in the morning if you don’t cushion the surface. Inflatable air mattresses or ground-pads work very well for this, and they’re compact enough to fit in the car easily without demanding too much extra space. And make sure you’ve brought your pillow! Next, think about what you’re going to eat and how you want to prepare it. If you’re familiar with backyard cooking, you probably already know how to work a camp stove and grill, and your family may already be familiar with sitting down at a picnic table outside. Pick up a bag of charcoal, grab the spatula, and pack some buns – hot dogs and hamburgers make the perfect camping meal, and if you’ve got a small pot and can opener, you can heat up plenty of canned vegetables to round out the selection. While these are the main essentials you’ll need when heading out to camp, it’s always a good idea to make yourself a checklist beforehand – plenty of people have the best of intentions, but arrive at the campground only to find that they’ve forgotten a can opener and the toothbrush is still sitting in the washroom at home. The little things count too, so plan ahead and get a checklist organized. That way, you’ll have all your bases covered – and will have a fantastic camping trip all around!

Life in an nfl locker room

As a former NFL player, I spent a lot of my time in the locker room. As many people wonder what goes on inside an NFL locker room, here is a quick look. As an NFL player, the locker room is our home away from home. This is where the team members become a family. This is where we bond and learn about each other’s different cultures, personalities, and view on life. On an NFL team, there are people from many different walks of life. People are from different races, different parts of the country, they grew up with different values, different religions, and different cultures. Being able to get to know these people and learn about their life is one of the things I enjoyed most about the NFL. It was such a great learning experience to interact with so many different people. So what do NFL players talk about in the locker room? We talk about the same thing everybody else does. We talk a lot about our wives, girlfriends, families, children, movies, music, our problems, and of course, a lot of joking around and talking smack. On every team there are a couple of guys who love to play pranks and keep everyone guessing as to what is coming next. It is a lot of fun. Another fun thing to do is haze the rookies. Giving rookies a hard time is always fun and it helps build camaraderie. How do we haze rookies? Well, we like to get several team members together and go out for dinner with a rookie and then make him pay the bill. We also like to make rookies carry our equipment. To really embarrass rookies, we’ll make them get up in front of everybody and sing or dance. Sometimes we will give them a horrible haircut by shaving parts of their head. Sometimes we’ll shave off their eyebrows too. Embarrassing rookies is always good fun. What is inside the locker room? The locker room is setup just like home to help players relax. There are couches, big screen TV's, video games, and an attached cafeteria. The locker room is also a place where we come together as a team to support each other, like when we lose a game or a player gets hurt or in trouble. The locker room is where a team’s chemistry is created and it is that chemistry that makes a team great when they walk out onto the field.

How does playing lotto affect you psychologically

There can be a number of benefits to playing the lotto and there can be a number of different reasons why a person would play lotto. Something that many people wonder, though, is how playing lotto affects people psychologically. Is it harmful? Is it only a positive experience? Does it play on people’s emotions? Why Are People Drawn to Playing Lotto? Many people enjoy partaking in lotto games. But what is it that draws them in? Some people like to test their luck, while others have hopes of winning it big. Some people see it merely as a fun game, whereas others take it rather seriously. In playing lotto, everyone knows the odds are against them, yet they have the deep feeling that if they give luck a chance, they may be greatly rewarded. In playing lotto you may not necessarily win big, but many times you are rewarded with a reasonable sum of money. See if you can follow me on this: If you knew that you would be rewarded financially with every third lotto drawing, than you would only play every third lotto and not the others. Thereby, the lotto business would loose money. If you played the lotto continuously and never won anything, you would quit playing. On the other hand, if you are rewarded at random times in playing the lotto, you will continue to play lotto much more often because you know a reward is in your future. You just don’t know when it will come. This is how lotto draws you in. It creates a desire inside of you to continue forth playing your luck, because you know you will win a little and yet you have the possibility of truly scoring it big. So the benefits can be quite gratifying. Can Playing Lotto Be Harmful? If you have ever heard that playing lotto can be addictive, it is true. Lotto does have an addictive factor, but it is most harmful when you are addicted to a high risk lotto. A high risk lotto is where you are paying out a great deal of money when the odds of winning anything back are very low. For this reason, those who are afraid of gaining such an addiction can enjoy playing some of the friendlier lottos without the fear of hurting themselves financially. One of the safest lottos available is the Liechtenstein lotto. You don’t have to throw away a bunch of money to give luck a chance. Instead you have the opportunity to play it for fun, while having a chance at striking it big. Drawing You In Through Charity If you are looking for a fun, low threat lotto to play, you may be interested in one that donates proceeds to charity. Involving charity helps people to let go of any negative feelings that they may have had toward playing lotto. For example, the Liechtenstein lotto donates a lot of their money to the Red Cross. If lotto looks exciting to you, yet you don’t like the idea of giving up your money only to chance, you can now feel good about playing lotto. This is because you have the opportunity to donate to a great charity while having a good time. Some people are looking for a charity to donate to every now and then. By playing the Liechtenstein lotto, you are able to donate as you are having fun chancing your luck at lotto. You even have the opportunity to donate your winnings if you choose. Before you choose a lotto to play, make sure that it a reputable lotto. For example, the Liechtenstein lotto is state run and has Ernst&Young monitoring it to ensure that people are rewarded accordingly. So go online and chance your luck at a reputable lotto. If you play one that gives to a charity, you not only benefit yourself, but the less fortunate benefit too.

Muskellunge

Muskellunge, often simply referred to as muskies, are fast-becoming one of Maine’s premier game fish. With a reputation for being a fierce, hard-running fish, muskellunge offer anglers of all abilities a challenge seldom matched by any other species. Muskellunge are currently most prevalent in rivers in northern and western Maine, but are becoming more widespread following their introduction into several new water systems. A typical muskellunge will grow to around 30-36 inches in length and weigh in anywhere between five and ten pounds. Larger muskies are not uncommon however, with fish regularly exceeding fifteen pounds in some of Maine’s more popular spots. Their bodies are long and slender with dark vertical bars on a lighter green or brown background whilst their mouths contain a set of sharp teeth an indication of their aggressive, predatory nature. Muskellunge look similar to northern pike, though can be distinguished by their typically lighter appearance and presence of seven or more (as opposed to the northern pike’s five) sensory pores under the jaw. Muskellunge tend to spend much of their time in deeper waters before turning to the shallower, weedy areas in search of food. It is also strongly believed that the best time to land muskies, particularly trophy-sized, is either early in the morning or last thing in the evening prior to sunset. Muskellunge can be caught throughout the day, though the biggest fish tend to steer clear of the shallower areas throughout much of the day. Due to the fast-running, aggressive nature of the muskellunge, a strong rod and line are essential for a successful catch. Many anglers prefer to go for a lightweight graphite or fibreglass rod coupled with 20-40 pound line. Even a relatively small muskie will put up a fight, which is why such a strong line is required. Crank or spinner baits are particularly effective for catching muskellunge, and both can be used with either a trolling or casting method. The colour of the lure is also important, and best results will be achieved by matching it with that of a local food source. Muskellunge attract anglers from around the world to Maine’s rivers, and particularly good spots for the species include Baker Lake and the St John Watershed. The former is a world renowned spot, and it is strongly believed that there are few locations in the world that offer a better muskellunge fishing experience. Whether you are looking for a trophy fish or simply relish the challenge of a big, powerful fighting fish, muskellunge are ideal.

Greece casinos

Greece is one of Europe's top tourist destinations; most foreign visitors come for the sunshine and beaches, as well as the heritage and history of Athens, Delphi, and Mycenae. There is, however, much more to the country than simply the Greek islands and classical ruins. Greece is developing a reputation as one of Europe's most attractive destinations for travelers seeking vibrant nightlife and entertainment, and Greece casinos are an important part of this appeal. Like many other European countries, Greece has a mixture of long-established casinos and newer ventures, which together offer a healthy choice of options to visitors and native Greeks alike. Up until the mid 1990's, Greece casinos were all state-owned businesses, but this has changed in recent years, and several private companies now operate casinos in the country. Unlike some other countries, Greece casinos are not centered in the capital; on the contrary, most of the casinos in Greece are spread throughout the rest of the country, as well as on the larger islands. There is a lower age limit of 23 on visitors to Greek casinos, and an entry fee is normally charged at the door. The largest Greece casino is situated in the Hyatt Regency in Thessaloniki, which is Greece's second city, in the north of the country. This casino has some 77 tables and nearly a thousand slot machines on the floor, making it one of the biggest casinos in Europe. There are also casinos in Xanthi and the popular resort of Porto Carras, although these are not on the same scale as the Hyatt Regency Casino. In addition, there is a very large casino in Loutraki, a spa town in southern Greece. Loutraki is very popular with the Greeks, especially the Athenians seeking to escape the city during the hot summer months, and particularly in August, when many residents flee the city in search of tranquility. This casino, the Club Hotel Loutraki, is on a similar scale to the Hyatt in Thessaloniki, and both are extremely busy and popular venues. There are also casinos on some of the larger islands, Corfu in the north, Rhodes in the east, and Syros, which is nearer Athens. These casinos are extremely popular with foreign tourists, for obvious reasons. Of all the Greece casinos, the closest to Athens is the Mont Parnes casino, which has a spectacular setting on a mountain north of the city, offering panoramic views over the entire Athens area. For this alone, the Mont Parnes casino is a must-see addition to any trip to the Greek capital.

Improve your soccer betting using the rateform method

Improve Your Soccer Betting is a series of articles that describe some well known and well used statistical techniques that will help the soccer punter make more informed bets. Each of the techniques has its own advantages and disadvantages and using them in isolation will improve your chances of winning. However, together they will prove invaluable in your battle with the bookies. In each article we will describe in detail how a particular method works giving you enough information for you to go ahead and create your own forecasts. We will also give you information as to where you can already find websites that use this technique in comprising their weekly soccer betting forecasts. The statistical methods described in this set of articles will help you to arrive at a better decision about the match, or matches, that you are betting on. In this article we will be describing the well known Rateform method. The Rateform method has its origins in The Rating Of Chessplayers by Professor Elo, and from the Punters Revenge by Tony Drapkin and Richard Forsyth. The basis of the Rateform method is that each of the two teams taking part in a match is given a point score that is based on their current form. Although this sounds very simplistic, and it is, its calculation is a little more involved. Here are the basic rules… 1. Each team is given a point score representing their current form. 2. At the start of the season each team is given 1000 points. 3. When a match is played both teams contribute some of their points towards a kitty. 4. The home team supply more points into the kitty than the away team. This is done to reflect the home teams advantage of playing at home. 5. The winning team takes the kitty, unless the result is a draw in which case both sides share the points. In the case of a draw the away side gains points and the home side looses points. Here is how a typical calculation is made… home team points total = HTPOINTS away team points total = ATPOINTS home team contribution to kitty = HTKITTY = 7% of HTPOINTS away team contribution to kitty = ATKITTY = 5% of ATPOINTS the kitty therefore = KITTY = HTKITTY + ATKITTY if the result is a HOME WIN then home team receives KITTY points added to HTPOINTS away team receives zero points added to ATPOINTS and looses its 5% contribution to the kitty if result is an AWAY WIN then home team receives zero points added to HTPOINTS and looses its 7% contribution to the kitty away team receives KITTY points added to ATPOINTS if the result is a DRAW then home team receives KITTY / 2 points added to HTPOINTS away team receives KITTY / 2 points added to ATPOINTS Let’s look at a simple example of how you could apply this… To calculate the possible outcome of a match based on rateform the away rateform is subtracted from the home rateform and the difference is compared against set values for home, away and draw possibilities. For example we could make our set values as follows: AWAY WIN -250 DRAW 150 HOME WIN RATEFORM DIFFERENCE = HOME TEAM RATEFORM – AWAY TEAM RATEFORM So, if the RATEFORM DIFFERENCE is less than -250 then the match is likely to be an away win, if the RATEFORM DIFFERENCE is greater than 150 then the match is likely to be a home win, and if the RATEFORM DIFFERENCE lies between then the outcome is most likely to be a draw. Now it’s your turn… Of course you may choose to use different values to those shown above and by experimenting you may come up with better values to use. You could also decide not to reset each teams points to 1000 at the start of the season but instead let them carry over into the next season. Another alternative would be to have a rolling calculation where you calculate the rateform for each team on say the last six months. If you have the necessary skills you could go away and build your own spreadsheet of data or even write a piece of software to take in results and fixtures and apply the Rateform method to your data. Or, if you’re lazy like me, you could grab some free software that already does this for you. 1X2Monster and Footyforecast have been providing this kind of facility since 1999. A total of seven different statistical methods are used to determine the outcome of each game played in each league, and a comprehensive record of how each method in each game performed is kept. Apart from how each tip performed within its respective league 1X2Monster also provides the league tables of how each league has performed in successfully predicting outcomes of games. The league tables of prediction performance are produced for home win predictions, draw predictions, away win predictions, and for overall predictions and are invaluable tools to the soccer punter when deciding where to target their European soccer betting predictions. Six tips for college basketball betting

In terms of sheer numbers, no sport matches the opportunity, intrigue, depth of quality, or endless variety involved with college basketball betting. Nearly every day of the week, from mid-November through March, bettors and sportsbooks match bankrolls on the hardwood fortunes of 235 teams in more than a dozen conferences. While number crunching and detailed analysis always are essential tools in college basketball betting, a degree of “art” compliments the “science” and is helpful, too. The successful bettor understands that subjective analysis of a number of other factors also must be considered. Let's look at a number of these elements: Teeming with teams: Competition all but mandates that a sportsbook posts prices on over 200 teams, (as compared to 30 NBA clubs) providing the gambler with many more options. For bettors, it's a lot easier to find a bad number among 100 games than it is to find one among 13 or 14. Home, sweet home: Sure, the home court is a factor in NBA play but it's the tiresome travel associated with getting to a road game that puts the visiting team at a disadvantage in the pro ranks. For that reason, NBA spreads are affected more by schedule than by actual home court. Since NCAA teams only play about 30 games a year, lengthy road trips aren't a factor in college play. Nevertheless, with its requisite contingent of chanting, sign-waving students, the home court really does matter in college basketball betting. In fact, the home court can be such an advantage that there may be as much as a 10-point swing in home-and-home series pointspreads. Morale: A shorter schedule and more heated rivalries, particularly within conferences or states, all but guarantees that emotion, especially when you're dealing with impressionable teenagers, will play a greater role in college basketball than it does in the NBA. For that reason, assessing a team's motivation can be a crucial factor in college basketball betting. Revenge: Another factor unique to college basketball is revenge. A team that lost to an opponent once often is troublesome to tame the second time around. This is a scenario that plays itself out in conference play, where splits are more common than sweeps. Freshmen: Time was that first year recruits sat on the pine and waited their turn. Nowadays, if you're good enough to play, coaches put you in the game. Interestingly, the emergence of freshmen as major contributors has required sportsbooks and bettors to track the careers of high school seniors, monitoring their college choices and assessing the impact they may have on those programs. Ohio State, which landed prized center Greg Oden, North Carolina, Texas, Connecticut, Duke, Tennessee, Washington, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Wake Forest, Stanford and Kansas are among the schools whose recruiting hauls could have a sizable impact on their fortunes this season. Since no sport is more affected by a single player than basketball, every new addition--freshman, junior college or transfer--has the opportunity to alter the dynamic of the team. Three-for-all: Further complicating the oddsmaking and betting equation is that college basketball is much more like a three-act play than a seamless season. Act I begins in mid-November and extends through the end of the year when teams play most of their non-conference games. For teams still seeking an identity, this is a chance for experimentation with different lineups and strategies, a time of growing pains that often are reflected by the pointspread. Other teams, ones with experienced players, have an obvious advantage in cohesiveness. After all, basketball is a team sport. Act II begins with the tip-off of the conference schedule, which starts in January. Teams have worked out the kinks by now and, for the most part, are ready to face a series of opponents with whom they have some familiarity. The teams may play each other as many as two or three times each season--twice in conference play and perhaps again in the league's tournament--and coaches know each other and their preferred style of play. There are few surprises and, except for those occasions when the very best teams are playing the very worst teams, close games are common. For the fortunate, the curtain will rise for Act III, the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, in March. It is the unpredictable nature of the "Big Dance," the convergence of teams that have as much in common as Rick Majerus and hair spray, which makes "March Madness" the oddsmaking and sports betting challenge that it is. Because of its uniqueness, bet makers and bet takers approach the tournament both respectful and wary of an entirely different set of factors that rarely come into play during college basketball's regular season. We'll examine that aspect of college basketball betting next spring.

The america s cup

When you talk about the best sailing competitions in the world, all discussions start and end with The America’s Cup. It is by far the most popular and the most heralded regatta in the sports of sailing. Known as the Holy Grail of yachting, The America’s Cup is also the oldest active international competition where a trophy is at stake. It is older than the FA Cup by over 20 years and older than the Modern Olympics by nearly five decades. It is no wonder why the best sailors and leading yacht designers and manufacturers in the world all come out, eager to make their presence felt, when The America’s Cup comes around. The Cup is named after the very first winner of this competition, a schooner called America, which won the Cup in 1852. In this competition, the trophy stays in the hands of the winner until the next competition and only changes hands if the champion is dislodged. The schooner America prevailed in this event for a stunning 132 years, a record for the longest winning streak in sports history, before relinquishing it in 1983 to Australia II from Australia. After over a century, the Cup left America for the land down under. Today, the America’s Cup comprises a best-of-nine series between only two competitors. It pits the winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup and the reigning champion. The Louis Vuitton Cup has its own series of races and the winner earns the right to compete in The America’s Cup. It began in 1970. Like before, whoever win The America’s Cup race gets to take the cup home to their local yacht club. The prestige surrounding the Cup has also captured the fancy of film makers. For example, in 1992, the film "Wind" was released and it focused on Dennis conner's loss to Australia in 1983 and his successful effort to re-capture the Cup during the next series. In addition, the Goodyear Tire Company has established a tradition of naming its commercial blimps after the America's Cup champion. This is because the company's former chairman, Paul Litchfield, believed that blimps are "aerial yachts" which is why he started the tradition. Over the years, the blimps have had such colorful names as Stars & Stripes, Mayflower, Enterprise and, of course, America.
